If you haven’t been by to see our current art exhibition at Silverwood, “Dynamic Nature”, you should definitely make a trip before June 10th. On view is recent works by painter Heather Kranz, who until not so long ago, worked mostly in sculpture. Although somewhat new to the scene as a professional painter, you wouldn’t know it (but it’s also not surprising, as she studied Studio Art at Skidmore and Art Education at Columbia and now teaches high school art in Bedford, New York). She has spent the last few summers with her husband and daughters at my cousins’ farm in Bolton Landing, New York and became so enamored with the landscape that she began to paint it, recalling, “I felt compelled to document the natural beauty of Lake George and surrounding mountains…” Lucky us!

Her work is fluid and serene, conveying a sense of movement while also lending the scenes a feeling of calm and reflection. I personally love her palette as well, vibrant and fresh without being gaudy or too far from nature (the images imbibed with lush greens and deep purples are my favorite). Her love for Lake George and the Adirondacks is palpable, although not cliche. She doesn’t focus too much on the Lake’s more typically painted panoramas, but focuses mostly on the beautiful mountains, flora and wetlands around the basin. She says, “Through these paintings, I attempt to convey the profound beauty of not only the place, but the temporal moment of light, air, and sound as seen through the lens of my own state of mind. My goal is to create the nostalgia or longing for the experience of that place.”

Heather’s work runs large to small, the biggest being a diptych at about 60″ x 30″. Her price points are still quite reasonable at this time, with every piece available for under $2,000.

We are very excited to be exhibiting Heather’s first solo show of Lake George paintings at The Gallery at Silverwood in Saratoga. We will be holding a closing reception for her (to coincide with Saratoga Arts Fest 2012), on Friday, June 8th from 6-8 PM. Please join us to meet the artist, have a glass of wine, and to enjoy some delicious hors d’ oeurves!
